| Description |
Andrew Gassman, Chamberlin Observatory astronomer, provides a brief history of Chamberlin Observatory, which is located in Observatory Park in the University Park area of Denver, Colorado. Gassman notes that the observatory was built for research in 1896 and at the time of its construction was located far from populated, lighted areas that might interfere with its operation. He relates that as the surrounding area became populated, the function of the Observatory changed from a research facility for astronomers to a facility to educate students and the public about astronomy. Gassman also discusses the historical features of the Observatory.
