	  	 <description>Identification card issued by the Polizeipräsident in Berlin, the Gestapo, to Heinrich Loewenstein [Henry Lowenstein] in Berlin, Germany. The issue date is March 31, 1939, and it is valid until March 31, 1944. After Kristallnacht, Jews were required to apply for identification cards. The left side of the interior is a form with blanks labeled issued location, identification number, expiration date, surname, given names, birth date, birthplace, profession, description, and remarks. The right side has a picture of Heinrich, two fingerprints, his signature, and three official Nazi stamps. Front cover says, &quot;Empire Identification Card&quot; with a capital &quot;J&quot; standing for Jew.</description>

	  <title>Max Loewenstein&#039;s Report to the Police</title>

	  	 <description>Dr. Max Loewenstein&#039;s registration with the Polizeipräsident, police registration office, Berlin, Germany, after his discharge from Wittenauer Sanitarium. The front of the form has been filled out by hand by Max and includes his current and former addresses, full name, occupation, birth date and place, religion, and address. Dr. Max Loewenstein and an official have signed this form. Three official stamps are on the front of this form; a circle with the Nazi eagle surrounded by German words about the Berlin police station, a square with the address of the police station and the date the form was accepted, and an illegible phrase in German. The back of this form is an excerpt of the Imperial Regulations.</description>

	  <title>Max Loewenstein&#039;s Temporary Identification Papers</title>

	  	 <description>Dr. Max Loewenstein&#039;s temporary identification papers issued after World War II by the Polizeipräsident in Berlin. The front cover says Temporary ID in German and the number, Nr. L. 0011104. The back cover has handwritten in the &quot;Official Changes&quot; section that Max had a previous identity card and this information is signed, dated, and stamped by the Chief of Police. The rest of this page, the section for children under the age of fifteen, is blank. Left side interior of the card contains information about Max Loewenstein: name, occupation, birth date and place, nationality, and fingerprint. Right side interior has a photograph of Max Loewenstein, a physical description of Max, his signature, the expiration and issue dates, and the seal and signature of the Chief of Police of Berlin.</description>

	  <title>Official Police Emigration Record for Heinrich Loewenstein</title>

	  	 <description>Official report filed at the police registration office, Polizeipräsident, in Berlin when Heinrich Loewenstein [Henry Lowenstein] emigrated to England. The form has been filled out by hand and signed by Dr. Max Loewenstein. Dated June 5, 1939, the day Heinrich left Germany, the top of the form gives his former address in Berlin and his destination as London, England. Information columns on the form are filled out for Heinrich and include: surname, first name, marital status, profession, birth date, birthplace, nationality, religion, and military service. Two official stamps, one in the top right corner with the address of a police station and date, and an official Nazi stamp left of center of the sheet. The bottom of the form has been signed by an administrator and is dated June 8, 1939. The back of the form has extracts from the Reich Registration Regulations.</description>
