To those of you who have travelled from other states or countries, I hope you will enjoy your stay and observe some of the area's features that m a k e those of us living here justifiably proud of Denver and Colorado. The Rocky Mountain Conference has grown in stature over the years and has become an outstanding summer scientific meeting in the United States. The conference has an 'international flavor' exhibited by the participation of scientists from a number of foreign countries with two of the nine symposia categorized as "International." Last year more than 800 attended the conference and about 260 papers were presented. We have 263 papers scheduled on this year's program and we hope to equal if not better the attendance of last year.
