Abstract The main focus of this study is to examine what factors play the most important roles in hockey player's motivation. Hockey players from NCAA Division I, the American Hockey League, and the National Hockey League are analyzed. After conducting twelve interviews, the player's responses are recorded and displayed in case studies. The research shows that there are many factors that motivate hockey players and that some play more important roles than others. Furthermore, some factors that were expected to be important contributors to hockey player's motivation proved otherwise. Many conclusions are drawn based on the results of the investigation.
